This painting examines connections between the celestial realm (upper part of the painting) and our earthly realm. The books and the ark represent the help that God extends to humanity. The ladders also symbolize the way up to higher realms that has been given to the human race. The angel looks down toward the Earth below: perhaps contemplating whether it is time to send the ark back down again.
